The Dyson STEAM Building will provide a new centre of excellence for studying Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics at Gresham’s School, Holt, Norfolk UK.
Our office was responsible for the part of design consisting of general assembly and production drawings of precast slabs and stairs. Superstructure of the building is made of steel structure and precast slabs with screed on the 1st Floor and the Roof. On both floors 250mm thick hollow core slabs and 100mm thick prestressed solid slabs were used. Screed was poured only on solid slabs up to the top of the hollow core slabs. Slabs are visible from the bottom.
Location of the slab joints was defined by the architect. Combination of these factors made the design coordination more difficult than usually, since the slab layout was defined from the beginning of the project, while slabs had many openings for MEP installations.
